Garbage Problem in Goa In the last 5-6 years the amount of garbage generated on a daily basis has increased almost twofold. According to the Goa State Pollution Control Board, about 400 tonnes of waste is generated on a daily basis and 50% of it is non biodegradable plastic which does not get decomposed or get mixed in the soil. The major cause for this garbage problem is the use of plastic. Plastic waste can cause environmental problems like soil pollution, contamination of water, land degradation and it can also affect marine life especially the plastic waste which is dumped into water bodies. In order to tackle this problem, people should try their best to reuse plastic items as much as they can and they should also try to reduce their dependence on plastic. People should often prefer biodegradable substitutes such as paper and jute bags instead of plastic bags.
